Privacy policy
This page explains what AIternative collects when you use the site, and what we do with it.
Last updated 5 October 2026
The short version
- We do not ask you to create an account to browse.
- We set no cookies for visitors and run no advertising or cross-site trackers.
- We count clicks on tools without storing your IP address or a profile of you.
- We do not sell personal data.
What we collect
Tool clicks. When you open a tool’s page from a link on the site, we add one to that tool’s count. To tell a new visit from a repeat and to block bots, your server-visible IP address and browser string are combined with a secret and the current date, then hashed. Only the hash is stored. Because the date is part of the input, the same person produces a different hash each day, so the hashes cannot be used to follow you across days. We keep no name, email or account with them.
Tool submissions. If you send us a link on the submit page, we keep that link and the IP address it came from, to review the tool and to limit repeat submissions.
Newsletter. If you subscribe, we use the email address you give us only to send the newsletter. We store the address and the time you signed up, and nothing else. To unsubscribe or have it deleted, email us at the address below.
Recent searches. The site search remembers your recent searches in your browser’s local storage so they appear next time. They stay on your device and are never sent to us. Clear your browser data to remove them.
Server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider processes your IP address, browser and the pages you request to deliver the site and keep it secure.
Cookies
Visitors do not receive cookies from AIternative. The only cookie we set is a sign-in cookie for our own admin area, which visitors never see.
Who else handles your data
We rely on a small number of services to run the site:
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores the click counts. It receives the technical data every request carries, such as your IP address.
- Logo Link (logos.context.dev) supplies some tool logos. When a logo loads from it, your browser contacts that service directly, and it receives your IP address and the logo requested.
Tool pages link to other websites. Once you leave AIternative, that site’s own privacy policy applies.
Affiliate links and ads
Some outbound links may be affiliate links, so we can earn a commission if you sign up, at no extra cost to you. The destination site, not AIternative, sets any cookies that result from following them. See About us for how affiliate links relate to our scores.
How long we keep it
- Click records are short-lived, and old rows are deleted automatically.
- Submission records are kept only as long as we need them to review the tool.
- Newsletter addresses are kept until you ask us to remove them.
Your choices
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Because click records are hashed and rotate daily, we usually cannot tell which ones are yours. We will tell you if that is the case. If you are in the EU, UK or a similar region, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
AIternative is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be easy to spot here before they take effect.
